Year 9 marks a significant stage in students' academic journey as a pivotal year for exploration and growth. During this time, students are encouraged to broaden their horizons and embrace a range of subjects.
As they begin to consider their future pathways for VCE and future tertiary pathways, the Year 9 program provides students with the opportunity to explore which fields they are most interested in, alongside their peers and in an environment where they are encouraged to take intellectual risks.
All Year 9 students are required to take all core subjects, and are strongly encouraged to undertake at least one language subject other than English.
This program of cross-disciplinary, inquiry-based subjects are designed to stimulate students’ curiosity, build their knowledge, and significantly expand rather than narrow student choices. This enables students to undertake studies in areas that they may not have considered, such as AI, Engineering, and Politics, before making important decisions in the coming years about their VCE subject selection and future tertiary pathways.
Our Starting Strong Program and Year 9 Central Australia Camp offer valuable experiences for Year 9 students as they transition to a new stage of personal, social, and academic development.
All students are required to partake in the ‘Starting Strong Program’ at the beginning of the year – a week that exposes them to a variety of activities that improve peer dynamics, increase independence, and learn about their surroundings. This in turn leads to important conversations regarding Indigenous culture as an introduction to our Year 9 Camp in Central Australia.
The Central Australia Camp is a mandatory cultural immersion program focusing on leadership and service-learning. Designed to deepen students’ understanding of Australia’s indigenous culture, while also deepening their own personal connection to the land.
As part of their Year 9 experiences, students are also encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, aerobics, debating, School Production, social service opportunities, various Performing Arts groups, House activities and Girls’ Sport Victoria sporting teams.
