Year 7 and 8 of Senior School are pivotal for our students.
Year 7 marks an exciting new chapter, filled with opportunities for growth and discovery.
In Year 8, students are encouraged to develop their independence further and take on more responsibility.
We trust that all students will strive to do their personal best and make valuable contributions throughout their time at the School. Mentone Girls’ Grammar is dedicated to excellence in the education of girls and, as our Mission states, “we prepare our students to aspire to excellence, to make a difference and, as global citizens, to rise boldly to the opportunities of their times”.
As educators, we specialise in understanding and meeting the learning needs of girls. Our School is committed to providing the best possible resources to support and enhance the beginning of their Senior School journey. With engaging and challenging programs, we empower students to become resilient, passionate young women—future leaders ready to make a difference.
All Year 7 and 8 students are required to take all core subjects.
Year 7 students are required to undertake two language subjects other than English.
Year 8 students are required to take one language subject other than English.
Starting Senior School is a significant milestone. Our Pastoral Program provides a strong foundation of support and guidance, helping students develop self-awareness and a deeper understanding of others, both locally and globally. Tutors, Heads of Year, and classroom teachers work closely to monitor student progress and foster positive relationships. We also collaborate with parents to address any concerns promptly and effectively, always prioritising student wellbeing.
Taking part in extra-curricular activities is highly recommended for Year 7 and 8 students as a way to make new friends, build confidence, and develop valuable teamwork skills. Throughout their educational journey, students can participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, aerobics, debating, School Production, social service opportunities, various Performing Arts groups, House activities and Girls’ Sport Victoria (GSV) sporting teams.
